Games

It doesn't matter how old you get, no one gets tired of games! My students expect games every class after we played a game on the first day called bop which is a name game I learned from my cousin Brandon. All the kids sit in a circle and one person is in the middle, the teacher will call a students' name then the person in the middle must bop that person on the head before that person says another name. Anyways, games are great for teaching English! Games should include one of the following: movement, excitement, an element of surprise, a goal, winners or losers, a task or teamwork. However, in my case I try to make sure they all include English! Students love games and usually each class will have a different favorite game. This past week the kids favorite game has been Big Wind Blows which is Fruit Basket Upset. I played this game on the second day of games and since then every time a student notices that we have extra time or when teacher Gabby and I are a powwow a student or students will start chanting the game name, until I give in and we play. Games I  would recommend in the classroom would be: mad lobs, scrabble, bop, freeze dance, dart ball, ninja this, walls, hide and seek, fruit basket upset, cops and robbers, crumple ball, chanders, chocolate game, bingo, musical chairs, hangman, running dictation, and one of my favorites wink'em. In the picture below it shows that the students should sit in a circle with a body behind them. One person does not have anyone in the seat so he or she must wink at a person sitting down in the circle. The person he or she winks at must make an effort to move into the empty seat. However, the person behind the person who was winked at can place theirs hands on their buddy's shoulders to keep them from leaving. But if they are not quick enough their buddy will move to the open seat and then the cycle repeats. Another class really like hide and seek with vocabulary cards. So I always would boys vs. girls, the girls would leave and the boys would hide the cards. The girls had 3 or 5 minutes to find as many cards as they can. When they find a card they must take it to the teacher and say the vocabulary word on it. So these are just some of the games I played with my students this past year. There wer games that went really well and became favorites of the students but I had a few games that crashed burned.
