How to beat the heat in a Taiwan summer is eating a lot of shaved ice! It is so delicious and refreshing no matter how it is prepared. However, fresh mango is my favorite.
Our Bible study group worked through a video series based of the book "This was Your Life" which is really excellent. I have read the book twice and watched the video series! It is REALLY good! One of the craziest points in the book was that every sin begins with the suspicion that God is not good. Our minds are a constant battle field of good and evil, but the moment that we think that God is not good is the moment that sin begins to grow. God said that his love is "unfailing", so why do we doubt that? When I look back on my life and all of my answers prayers I know God is good and if that is not enough the Bible clearly states that God is good ALL THE TIME. I just need to put my trust in the truth and believe that he is good and everything works out for good. " For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. 好久不見 ( how jo bu jian) which in English means long time no see. Upon returning to Taiwan for another I found this phrase very useful to know because almost everyone I know has said it to me. So this year I am teaching a plethora grades, I am not even sure which ones yet. However, I know I am teaching fifth grade again and first grade. I think I will enjoy teaching first grade because the first class, although exhausted at the end went very very well. I taught the ABC: apple, bear and cat and a story AND a song which we sang and did the motions to countless times. Later the same day I was getting my lunch and my first graders saw me and started shouting "Teacher Joanna" "Hello" with huge smiles. It had really only been a few hours since they last saw me, but their reaction was as if they hadn't seen me for a very long time. More to come...
