Long Hair Don't Care
My hair is different from the people of Taiwan, but it's not like you ever see it because I keep it up in a bun or a ponytail like all the time because it is so HOT! That is my excuse to my boyfriend and mom who always say I don't let my hair down. But there are have been several awkward moments involving my hair. For example my teammate and I like to get our hair washed, the first time I didn't not appreciate or liked it. The next time the ladies were eagerly wanting to cut my hair by making scissor fingers. Then one time with Google translate I was asked exactly "How to organize hair?" I had no idea thankfully my teammate understood and they were asking if I wanted my hair straight or curly. But getting my hair washed feels like such a luxury, it only cost like 3-6 American dollars for that I can get a head and shoulder massage, my hair washed and then blown dry straight or curly. Then I just feel like singing "I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty, witty and BRIGHT!"
I just got my haircut last night and many people were touching my hair when one said "your hair's touch is is is ... comfortable." I knew that he meant to say soft. However, have blonde hair throws the kids off, because the only people they know with light hair are old people. Their logic, therefore, is that I must be a grandmother because my hair is not black. So I no longer get called teacher Joanna but Grandmother. Also students were asking me questions about America, when one student asked "Teacher is your hair a wig?" I yanked on my hair to show him that it is not a wig. Why he thought I will never know. I love my hair and I am glad that it gives me a way to interact with people even if its only to be called Grandmother but I like my nickname, they actually call me that in Chinese which is AhMa, or the will say the first part of my name Jo Ah Ma which I am consistently called by young children in different schools. But I this isn't the first time I have been called a grandmother, I was called grandma in college by a few people and that is because I stuck to my morals and I guess you could say that I am old fashion. However, you gotta stand for something or you will fall for anything. People are always looking at you and looking up to you, that is why I am trying my best to be the best me.
